Sculptra

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is an FDA-approved injectable treatment that stimulates collagen production to increase facial volume using the active ingredient poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Collagen is an important protein that gives our skin structure and elasticity. As we age, collagen production decreases and this lack of underlying structure causes lines and wrinkles to develop. Sculptra injectables restore that underlying structure to improve the appearance of smile lines, marionette lines, and chin wrinkles. This treatment can also help you achieve smoother skin texture and better facial volume for a naturally youthful appearance.

Who Can Benefit from Sculptra?

Healthy adults (18 and older) who have started to notice the signs can benefit from this treatment. However, you might not be a suitable candidate if you have a history of scarring or an allergy to Sculptra’s ingredients. You should wait to receive treatment if you are currently breastfeeding or pregnant or have an active infection around the treatment site.

Sculptra Treatment

Your injector will examine your skin and discuss your concerns with you to determine where to place your injections and how much injectable is needed. To start, the treatment area will be cleansed, and a topical anesthetic will be applied to the skin to minimize any discomfort you might feel. Sculptra will then be injected under the skin using a small needle.

Sculptra Results

After your Sculptra treatment, mild swelling, redness, bruising, and itchiness or tenderness are common but will only last a few days. An ice pack can be used for the first two days to help reduce swelling. Although there is no downtime, you should avoid strenuous activity and exercise for 24-48 hours after your injections.

An average of three Sculptra treatments are needed for optimal results. Results appear gradually as more collagen is produced but once they develop, you can enjoy your beautiful results for up to two years.
