Sciton® BBL® Laser Hair Removal

What is Sciton® BBL® Laser Hair Removal?

The Sciton® BBL laser uses quick, low-energy pulses of laser light to directly target heat up and eliminate unwanted hair follicles. The laser is attracted to melanin pigment that resides in your hair shaft, so it destroys both the hair shaft and follicle with a quick burst of heat. Plus, because this treatment uses lower energy levels, it is less likely to cause skin irritation or burns.

Laser hair removal can be used on almost every area of the body, with some of the most popular treatment sites being:

  • Face.
  • Arms.
  • Underarms.
  • Back.
  • Bikini area.
  • Legs.

Who Can Benefit from Sciton® BBL® Laser Hair Removal?

Both men and women who wish to eliminate unwanted body hair can benefit from this treatment. While in the past laser hair removal usually worked best only for those with lighter skin tones and dark hair, the Sciton® BBL® laser hair removal system can be beneficial to almost any skin tone! However, if you have been diagnosed with any pigmentation conditions that could be worsened by laser treatments, you should not undergo this treatment. The best way to determine if you are a good candidate is to schedule a consultation appointment at our office.

The Sciton® BBL® Laser Hair Removal Procedure

First, there are some steps that should be taken prior to receiving laser hair removal treatments. We ask that you limit your time in the sun and wear sunscreen when outdoors, as sunburn can make your treatment very uncomfortable. We ask that you do not tweeze or wax before your treatment for at least a month beforehand. However, you should shave the areas to be treated 12-24 hours before your first appointment.

During your treatment session, your technician will first cleanse your skin. Then, the special BBL® handpiece will be passed over the necessary areas emitting short bursts of laser energy. This light will target your hair follicles, while a cooling handpiece is used to ensure that you are comfortable during your treatment session.

Over the course of your laser hair removal treatment, your hair’s natural growth cycle will be impacted, meaning that you will begin to notice finer, thinner hair over time. Overall, the length of treatment will depend on the number of areas being treated and the size of the targeted areas.

Sciton® BBL® Laser Hair Removal Results

Following your first Sciton® BBL® hair removal treatment, you should avoid applying any lotions, deodorants, or makeup to the treated skin for at least 24 hours. You should also avoid the sun, as your skin will be sensitive. About 5-10 days later, you will notice some hair shedding in the treated areas.

In order to see the full benefits of Sciton® BBL® laser hair removal, your treatment process may last several months. However, you will be left with finer hair growth and reduced hair volume so you won’t have to shave or wax as often! For most people, 6-9 treatments are ideal.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

No. While you may feel some discomfort, you will likely not feel any pain. Laser hair removal is far more comfortable than other forms of hair removal.

How does laser hair removal work?

The laser used in laser hair removal is attracted to the melanin pigment in the hair shaft and it uses laser light to target, heat up, and destroy the hair shaft and the follicle.

Is laser hair removal safe?

Yes! Laser hair removal at SkinCeuticals SkinLab is entirely safe. We use a low-energy laser so you don't have to worry about skin irritation or burns.

Can laser hair removal be performed on all skin types and hair colors?

At SkinCeuticals SkinLab, we use the Sciton® BBL® laser hair removal system and that can be effective on almost any skin tone and hair color.

Is laser hair removal a permanent solution?

Most patients don't see any hair regrowth for years and if hair does regrow, it's usually finer and lighter in color. You may need maintenance treatment to maintain the results you're looking for.

Can laser hair removal be performed on sensitive areas such as the bikini line or face?

Absolutely! Laser hair removal works well on the face and bikini area.

What areas of the body can be treated with laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal can be used on the face, arms, underarms, back, bikini area, and legs.

What should I expect before, during, and after a laser hair removal treatment?

Before laser hair removal, try to avoid direct sun exposure and wear sunscreen when outside. You will also want to avoid tweezing or waxing for at least a month ahead of your appointment, but you should shave the treated areas 12-24 hours before the treatment. During treatment, your provider will cleanse the skin and then use the handpiece to target the hair follicles with laser energy. After treatment, avoid applying lotion, deodorant, or makeup to the treated area. You will see your hair shedding 5-10 days later.

Can I have laser hair removal if I have a tan or sunburn?

We recommend avoiding sun exposure and tanning for at least a month before your treatment. As for a sunburn, you cannot have laser hair removal with a sunburn. The laser could further irritate the skin.

How many sessions of laser hair removal are typically needed?

For most people, six to nine treatment sessions are needed to achieve the desired results.

How long does each laser hair removal session take?

It really depends on the area being treated. The face is going to take less time than the legs or the back, but sessions typically last about 30 minutes to an hour.

What are the potential side effects of laser hair removal?

The possible side effects of laser hair removal include hyperpigmentation, blisters, redness, and skin irritation.

What is the cost of laser hair removal and are there any financing options available?

The cost of laser hair removal can differ greatly depending on how big of an area you're having treated, how experienced your provider is, and where they are located. Your provider can discuss cost and financing with you at your consultation.

Are there any restrictions or precautions to take before and after laser hair removal sessions?

Before getting laser hair removal, you'll want to avoid prolonged sun exposure and tanning for a month before your appointment. You'll also want to avoid waxing and tweezing. After the treatment, you'll want to avoid putting lotions, deodorants, and makeup on the treated area. You should also avoid the sun after treatment as the skin will be sensitive.

Are there any alternatives to laser hair removal?

Shaving, waxing, threading, and electrolysis are alternatives to laser hair removal, but they are not always as effective or as safe as laser hair removal.
